On Wednesday, I went to the Waitohu Awa.
First, me and my class did a walk and we were told we were going to an area were native plants stayed. We had a sit down and Matua said that we were going to pull weeds, put rocks around plants, and more weed pulling. After, we crossed the road and went over the fence and sat down on a blue mat.
Secondly, Mauta then told us more about the things we were doing. Then he showed us a pile of weeds and we got to work. I helped carry some to the pile and Mr Ward took a picture of me. I helped pull out more weeds and went back to bringing some back.
Next, we went over to Mr Ward and he told us to grab a rock each and then put them by a plant. I grabbed a rock and climbed up a dirt path and chose a small plant behind with some rocks around it. I went back and carried more to the plant and then we started finding snails.
Afterwards, we started randomly finding many snails through the area. We grabbed shells of snails and put them in safe areas. I helped find the snails and pick out more weeds and put them in the pile. Then I talked to some of my friends about the snails and jobs we have been doing.
Finally, we walked back to school and we were exhausted and I laid down on the carpet. Then I left for Road Patrol.
I had such a good time and I can’t wait for my next Awa Trip.
Here is a picture of me.
