On Thursday last week, we did an experiment where we put different liquids in a tube, and instead of the liquids mixing, they actually sat on top of each other and didn’t mix. That’s because of the difference in density between the liquids.

The different liquids were:

  • Detergent
  • Salt water
  • Methanol
  • Oil
  • Water
  • Glucose

Some of these liquids were sticky and thick, while others weren’t as thick.

-Density meaning-

Density means that there are different weights.

If you were to stir the liquids together, they would mix, and there wouldn’t be any layers.

This is the picture of all the liquids in the tube; as you can see, they are all layered and they are not mixing.
