~Hi besties!~
This week for reading we read chapters 41-50, Pages 119-160. It is very interesting, but please read my summary, I worked really hard on it.
~SUMMARY!~
The bear cubs don’t like Roz. They say they need to make her uncomfortable on the island. Apparently, they think she has become too comfortable on the island. Thorn keeps repeating everything that Nettle says. Roz was in serious trouble. She couldn’t fight, or run. The bears were closing in on her. Brightbill flew in, but then with a flick of Nettle’s paw. He was sent to the ground. The bears and Roz started to fight. They followed her up a tree, and Thorn got stuck. Roz put out her foot for Thorn to grab, and then her foot detached.
I hoped you liked it! Now it is time for create tasks!
CREATE TASK ONE!
LEARN: How do the animals act as guardians of the island? What does this look like in their interactions with Roz? In Te Aō Māori, guardianship is known as Kaitiakitanga.
TASK:
Design a “Welcome to our Community” sign or banner for the island from the animals’ perspective.
So I have done just that!
Here it is.
CREATE TASK TWO!
LEARN: How could you convince the animals to accept Roz? What has she done in the novel that shows she should be apart of the community on the island?
TASK: Write a persuasive letter to the other animals from Roz’s perspective, trying to convince them to accept her fully into the community.
Here it is!
To whom it may concern,
My name is Roz. But people may still know me as the monster of the forest. I have learnt from my mistakes, such as trampling on all of the habitats. But, I promise I will rebuild them somehow, even though I am a robot.
Robots don’t display feelings, which is why I don’t feel upset, embarrassed, or anything when you hit me with insults.
I don’t think that you realise I am a robot, not a monster still. Even though I wish you will accept me, I don’t mind.
Please do not tell Brightbill I accidentally murdered his family. I am his family right now. Family is not always perfect, but that teaches us about whanau.
From the robot,
Roz.
QUESTIONS!
QUESTION ONE!
Brightbill becomes a better flier and teaches his tricks to other goslings. What does this tell us about the character of Brightbill, and what message is the author sending about learning and sharing?
ANSWER!
He is sharing that even though brightbill is still learning, it doesn’t mean that he is never going to achieve his dreams. It tells us that Brightbill is a good kid who is still learning his way in the forest, just like Roz
QUESTION TWO!
How did you feel when the other goslings called Roz a “monster”? Why do you think words like that can hurt someone’s feelings?
ANSWER!!!
It really hurt me, because that does not show whanaungatanga. Words like that really hurt, because they are not accepting Roz for who she is. And she is still a living object
QUESTION THREE!
What do you think the author, Peter Brown, is trying to teach us about being different? How do the characters of Roz and Brightbill help him tell this message?
ANSWER!!!
Because Roz and brightbill are two very different characters, and they help him write the book with how different they are to the other animals.
