 Orderic Vitalis is a person who almost ended the Angolo-Norman rule but thanks to his successful voyage they ended up existing. Since Orderic Vitalis was successful on one voyage the royal family thought it was safe until the fate of nature caught up to them.

1. What made the atmosphere on the ship “festive and carefree” before it left? 

I think It is because people would regularly get heavily drunk and constipated on the ship and that’s why I think the atmosphere on the ship was festive and carfree.

1. Explain why the author describes the event as a “turning point” in English history. The author says that this is a turning point because it led to civil wars and political instability.

1. Do you think Matilda should have been accepted as queen? Why or why not? I don’t think Matilda was accepted by everyone because I think that some people still believed that men should be king. I also think that Matilda might have not been fit for the throne because she wouldn’t have been prepared and she would have had no learning. These are just the couple reasons why I think people would have not accepted her as queen
   

2. How might England’s history have changed if William Adelin had survived? 

If William Adelin had survived then he would have been king and all of the drama with Matilda being Queen would have not been reality. If William Adelin lived Political Instability would have happened leaving no civil wars and less deaths all of the country. This is just the reasons what I think would have happened if William Adelin lived 

What does this event teach us about how fragile power systems can be? Apply this idea to a modern example if you can. If one person has to rule over an entire country with no support then the political state would be unstable thus being fragile. If the political state is fragile then riots and wars can happen leading to death
