Summer Learning Journey | Step It Up | Te Reo Maori

Hey bloggers!

For our task today, we had to come up with a “what if” story about the birds in the forest. We had to imagine a different bird coming down to the ground, or maybe Kiwi coming up with a different plan so he could still fly! My imagination was the limit, so here is the story I wrote.

The Great Bug Battle

One day, the Forest King looked down and saw that the ground was covered in creepy-crawly bugs that were eating all the tree roots. He needed a bird to go down and live on the floor to save the forest.

But instead of Kiwi, the Pukeko stepped forward! “I have big feet and long legs,” Pukeko said. “I can stomp the bugs and keep the forest safe.”

But Kiwi didn’t want to just watch. He had a different plan! He didn’t want to lose his wings, so he invented “The Flying Patrol.”

Kiwi used his long beak like a spear. He would fly high up into the clouds, then tuck his wings in and zoom down like a fluffy rocket! He was so fast that the bugs didn’t even see him coming. He would snatch up a bug, flap his wings at the last second, and soar back up into the trees.

Because Pukeko was stomping on the ground and Kiwi was zooming from the sky, the bugs got scared and ran away forever.

The Forest King was so happy. He told Kiwi, “Since you found a way to save the trees and keep flying, you can keep your beautiful wings forever.”

Now, Kiwi is the king of the night sky. He still has his long beak for snacks, but at night, he does loop-the-loops around the moon because he is the best flyer in the whole world.

Reflection:

I really liked writing this story because it was fun to think about Kiwi still flying. I love birds and I think everyone should get to fly if they want to! It was hard to think of a different plan at first, but then I thought, “What if he was super fast like a jet?” and that made it really easy to write. I hope you liked my story!
