Te Whare Tapa Wha Blog

Explain what the activity you participated in was

The activity I participated in involved working with a group to create a model of Te Whare Tapa Whā using six pieces of paper. We had to design and build a paper structure that represented the four walls of the whare with each wall symbolising a different dimension of hauora. We worked together to plan, construct, and explain how each wall connects to wellbeing.

Which areas of Hauora were affected when you participated in this activity?

Taha Whanau and Taha Hinengaro

How were the areas of your Hauora affected when you participated in this activity?

Taha Hinengaro:
My mental wellbeing was  affected because I had to think creatively, and I understood the meaning of each wall and how to represent it.

Taha Whānau:
This area was affected because we worked as a group, we shared ideas and cooperated to complete the task.

Do you think that the values of social justice (fairness, inclusiveness, and/or non-discrimination) were shown today? How?

Yes, I think the values of fairness and inclusiveness were shown. No one was left out, and everyone’s opinions were respected.

How well do you feel that you participated in today’s activity? Why is that?

I feel that I participated well because I had some ideas and helped with building the model, and worked positively with my group.
