Science Assessment Term 1
Hey everyone, today I am gonna be talking about most of the things I’ve learn’t this year.
Starting of with DNA and What it means:
DNA stands for Deoxyribonucleic Acid. It looks like a potato spiral, and has connecting parts that kind of look like ribs, or a twisted ladder. There are four types of nucleotide bases in DNA, there being, 1 – Adenine (A), 2 – Thymine (T), 3 – Guanine (G), 4 – Cytosine (C). Each has a partner and a specific bond called the “complementary base pairing rule”. The bonds made for the four bases are, A-Adenine pairs with T-Thymine, and G-Guanine bonds with C-Cytosine, only the two pair are mental to be.
Facts:
- DNA is inherited (passed down from parents to children)
- Every individual has a unique and mix of their parents DNA (except for identical twins)
- DNA carries genetic info used for development and function of living organisms.
- There is Phosphate, Sugar and one of the base (example: A-Adenine) that is a part of DNA
- Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes (there being 46 chromosomes in total)
Next thing we learnt this term was Gene: Gene is something that is passed down from your parents, an example of that would be how you look, for
Then there was Trait:
Inherit: The definition of inherit to have a characteristic, trait or quality, passed down through generations passed down from parents and ancestors from way back then. An example of that is something like a trait from your parents physical or internal (like a disease example:diabetes) trait, that is given from mum or dad, whichever has the more dominant trait is passed down, making you look like them or have a condition.
Facts:
- Half of yours or my chromosomes can be inherited/passed down from each parent.
- The genes we inherit from our parents are random.
- There will be a probability that inheriting some traits is greater than others, having a more dominant gene.
What are punnet squares?: Punnet squares is basically a table shown to others what could happen when a pair of parents alleles fuse to make an offspring, showing which could be the more dominant or receiving side.
Natural selection: Natural selection is the survival of the fittest. It is when one, human or animal adapts to survive from predators, habitats and their diets, to survive and reproduce.
Reproduction: Reproduction is when two parents go through natural selection and surviving through the challenge they meet a special some one and have a cuddle to make a baby and pass down the good traits for the next generation to survive.
Evolution: Evolution is when a generation goes through natural selection to survive and reproduce, adapting each time.
