Dave rested his eyes under the caring shade of the mighty oak. His sword lent on the tree before Dave woke. A warm breeze, and a bittersweet birdsong filled the air. Dave was supposed to go to war, to fight off the Zeablanders, who were trying to steal the Canafranian maple. But Dave didn’t want to go to war, he liked the Zeablanders. Dave frowned to himself, and sunk to the ground. He missed his wife and young son, who were across the Merlon. Dave was stuck on the other side. Away from his family, Dave cried. Dave was forced to work on the maple farm. Dave stretched his arm. So he always said, ‘I’d rather be in Zeablanderland home with my kid.’ So the villagers kicked him out, and without a doubt Dave was off to Zeablanderland.
Now Dave is resting by a tree. ‘The sun’s warmth is too warm for me’ He said to himself. Dave is the sort of guy who says ‘Do it yourself’ like when they wouldn’t let him go to Zeablanderland. So Dave did it himself and set off to go to Zeablanderland. ‘Only two more miles to go’ said Dave to himself. Dave stood up and grabbed his sword. ‘Let’s go to Zeablanderland Jessie’ So Dave, and Jessie the sword set off.
Whenever Dave got lost he’d swing Jessie round and say ‘Which way to Zealanderland’ and let her go. She’d land pointing the way, and Dave would go to Zeablanderland. One day Dave found the Merlon, and climbed up the wall. He ran across the border and jumped into the field. After all this time, Dave had forgotten that there was a war going on, he had ended up in the middle of a battlefield!
