Rūma Whio has been diving deep into the fascinating world of the NZ longfin eel. Our journey began with an engaging short clip, where the children practiced their observation skills by recording everything they noticed about these unique creatures. To better understand our local species, we compared the longfin eel to other eel varieties from around the world, noting the distinct differences in size and markings. The students then channeled their inner scientists by sketching detailed diagrams and labeling key anatomical features. We wrapped up our learning adventure with a hands-on creative project, building our very own life-like NZ longfin eels using paper-mâché.
