What an incredible day of learning and exploration! Our Tui class recently visited the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery to immerse ourselves in the powerful Whiria Ko te Tuna Iwi — Art Action exhibition. It was an eye-opening experience that blended the beauty of art with the vital importance of environmental kaitiakitanga (guardianship).
Unlocking the Secrets of the Tuna
During our visit, we dove deep into the world of the Longfin Eel. We weren’t just looking at art; we were learning about a local treasure. Some of the highlights included:

The Life of a Legend: We discovered the impressive lifespan of the Longfin Eel and the epic journeys they take.

Communication & Connection: We explored how these amazing creatures communicate within their habitat.

The Taiao (Environment): We studied the surrounding ecosystem and what a healthy river actually looks like compared to an unhealthy one. Seeing the contrast really made us think about how we can help protect our waterways.
