15/5/26 Science Term 2 Week 4 Heart Dissection

Hello, and my name is Caiden and yesterday during science with this a heart dissection to take a closer look at the parts of the heart and what they look like, the heart used for this experiment was a sheep heart because we cant be using a human heart. And are next lesson will be making a blog about it which is this.

Equipment used during the experiment:

  • Scalpel
  • Scissors
  • Gloves
  • News paper
  • Tray
  • The heart dissection

Step by step process:

  1. Acquire all the equipment go to your work bench and place the news paper on the bottom
  2. Then place the tray on top with news paper in it
  3. then place the heart inside after placing the news paper
  4. Make a long cut down in the middle of the heart and open it up during this process you will find the left and right atrium and left and right ventricles which is all we need to do to look into he heart properly. The parts you will be able to see are Pericardium, Chordate indite and the Papillary Muscle.
  5. After opening up the heart a little more or all the way (I am not able to name the rest of them due to the photos not naming some of the parts that I can’t make out).

Naming the parts seen during the dissection:

  1. Left atrium
  2. Right atrium
  3. Left ventricle
  4. Right ventricle
  5. Pericardium
  6. Chordate indite
  7. Papillary Muscle
  8. Vena Cava
  9. Aorta

4 Parts Of the Heart and their Functions:

  1. Vena Cava returns deoxygenated blood to the right atrium and into the right ventricle and brings it to the lungs for oxygenation
  2. Aorta it releases oxygen-rich blood from the left ventricle of the heart to the rest of the body
  3. Papillary Muscle it prevents the atrioventricular valve to leak when contracting
  4. Pericardium it fixes the heart in place, stop it from overfilling, reduces friction when beating, and protects the heart from infections

That’s all thanks for reading and see you in the next blog, bye.
