What is Pentecost?

2 months ago, our class had to make a DLO explaining what Pentecost is and why we celebrate it. Ruzzel, Samantha and I worked together to make our DLO. We drew our own pictures of Jesus, Mary and Joseph and used it to decorate the slide. We helped each other to type in and explain what Pentecost is. Here’s what we wrote: Pentecost was when flames were above Mary and the apostles head and they started speaking other languages. They preached about God in the different languages and everyone understood. Here is our DLO:

yesterday I saw yeti.

this week in room 12 we wrote about a yeti that we saw yesterday

we didn’t actually see a yeti but it was a writing challenge

Yesterday I met a Yeti

When I was walking in the hills yesterday I saw something weird. It was big. It was so hairy. It was so mad I could tell by its facial expressions  IT WAS A MONSTER! But wait, was it a monster? It was hairy like a monster but monsters aren’t giant and most of the monsters aren’t mad so what could it be? A yeti? Then we became best friends. In the hills, we went for a walk and looked for Mount Everest.

But something was off. He was mad then excited. It was so confusing really. But then I realized something. It’s unusual to be friends with a yeti. They usually don’t come to the real world so I asked him why he was here. He slowly turned towards me and said he wanted to see what it’s like in the eyes of a human being.

I was confused why a yeti would want to visit the real world. But then it hit me. He probably wanted to make new friends. But that’s not right. Why would a yeti leave the mountains and come to the humans? I started thinking really really really hard but then he said it’s night time my friend you should be in bed. I asked him if he will go back to the Yeti world when I’m in bed and come back tomorrow. He said yes he will. Then I went to bed.

When I woke up he was not there. I think it was a dream. I said Awwwwwwwww. Then I went to the hills again and heard a loud noise. THIS TIME IT WAS REALLY A YETI! Then we played and played together for hours. After that we became friends for real and he took me to visit the cave where the yetis live.

When I arrived it was hard to spot the yetis. I asked if I could go back now and then we became friends. He said thank you for the water. I said you’re welcome then he left for the yeti world. Before he left he smelled me to remember my scent. But that was the last time I ever saw him…… or was it?

This question was worth 7 points. 4 people voted Turkey and 3 people voted New Zealand and Australia. 0% got this right.

The second question was: When is ANZAC day celebrated? 9th February 1895, 25th January 2002, 8th of April 2026, or 25th April 1915. The right answer was 25th April 1915 Everyone out of the seven people got this question right. This answer was worth 6 points. Everyone voted on 25th April 1915. So 100% got this correct

The third question was Why do poppies get put up on ANZAC day? They just do, They grew on Flanders Fields after the war, or It was the flower of the year. Everyone got this answer right as well. This question was worth 2 points. Everyone voted they grew on Flanders Fields after the war 100% got this correct

The final question was , Who won the ANZAC war? Turkiye, New Zealand, America, or France. The answer was Turkiye but only 1 person got this question right. This question was worth 5 points. 1 person voted Turkiye and six people voted New Zealand 14.3% got this correct

The seven people that did the quiz 3 people got 8 points 3 people got 11 points and one person got 13 points and if you got all the questions right you would get 23 points. The average score of the quiz was 10. We think that this means that people definitely need to learn more about ANZAC. That means less than half of my class don’t know much about ANZAC because there was only one person that got just more than half the quiz right.

ANZAC Cloze

I can read from, and respond to, a broad range of texts.

Tuarua Challenge:   Anzac Day Cloze

ANZAC Day is a day of remembrance that takes place on 25th of April. It is commemorated in Australia and New Zealand or by Australians and New Zealanders living elsewhere in the world. It is held in memory of the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZACs), many of whom lost their lives in battle.

The Australian and New Zealand Army Corps landed at Gallipoli  on 25th April 1915. This was the first major combat of the war for these two countries . It was a long and brutal eight-month battle. The plan was to knock Türkiye out of the war as quickly as possible. However, this proved to be more difficult than was expected.

At the end of 1915, the ANZAC forces were rescued from the beach. Generals and commanders were worried about the high number of casualties. A secret evacuation was planned so that the Turkish troops did not find out. The ANZAC troops were evacuated in stages to stop the Turkish troops getting suspicious.

There were many casualties and many were killed during the battle at Gallipoli. Over 8000 Australian soldiers and more than 2500 New Zealander soldiers lost their lives. Even though the mission was not successful, the bravery and determination shown by the ANZACs have made this terrible battle an important moment in New Zealand history.
