Leadership – Session 1/2

This week in room 10 I have been nominated for one of the 5 leaders in my class. The other people nominated were Celeste, Kasaina, Jurelio, and Toutai. When when arrived at the hall we had a quick little game of head shoulders knees and cone. Not too long after we split and to groups and were given a sheet of paper that had 2 questions on it. The first being what is leadership to you?  Our answers were positive – attitude, perseverance, and determination etc. The second question was What are your top 5 leadership qualities? We chose positive attitude, kindness, honesty, lead by example, and confidence.

After that we were handed another slip of paper as well is a good portion of sticky notes. We were assigned to grab a sticky note and write about who we think are leaders. I did doctors, teachers, and sir Edmund Hillary.

Lastly, we were handed the last piece of paper that said, what were the 5 leadership qualities you chose? and what are your school values? I wrote down Kaitiakitanga, Manaakitanga, Whanaungatanga, and Rangatiratanga for our school values, and wrote kindness, positive – attitude, honesty,  leading by example, and confidence. We then played a game called the human knot. The rules of this game is to hold two others hands and to not let go. The goal of the game is to get untied by getting in a circle. It’s harder than expected especially when you cant talk.

Session 2

Today we started off the same with a nice little quick mini game. I cant recall the name of the game but you have to make shapes using yourself whether is your body or hands. The first shape was a house which I think my team failed miserably. The next shape was a ladder that was fairly easy as well as the star.  The only shape that really stumped us was the pyramid.

We talked about what is good communication and why leaders need good communication. We answered those questions with answers such as mannerism, good body language. Then we had a sheet of paper that said what type of leader are you? it had 3 example autocratic which is one that likes to take over the situation.  Democratic is the team player type of leader, and the laissez is the leader that trust their people for things.
