Aim: The aim is to get the most furuest in the race and have the most creative land yachts.
Equipment: Cardboard, String, Tape, and Bamboo Sticks.
Method: We put the cardboard on the front acting as the sail, Put the three bamboo sticks in the holes to hold up everything, and the attach the string form the sticks to the cardboard with holes in it, and at the end tape up all the loose areas.
Distance Travelled (m): 5.8 m. Time taken (s): 9.7 sec. Speed calculation (ms-1): 4.85ms-1
Discussion: The forces are acting on the land yachts is entertaining because some yachts coulndn’t handle the force and spun around and tipped over, while others flew past and was sturdy. Our land yachts were balanced because we had nearly perfect amounts of every thing which made it sturdy and even, Net force is the force you put into something, you can calculate net force with pressure and area. The leaf blower acted as force for the land yachts, The leaf blower was the strength for the force and at different stages was level one was the start, it was fast and many land yachts fell down while others took the impact and seeked higher scores, level two was the finishing part, our teacher move the leaf blower up and down to finish the result. The force acting on the motion of our land yachts is very important when it comes to gliding on the ground and can be too much if your land yacht is not sturdy.
Conclusion: Our land yachts went successful because we overral came 2nd place, we got a high place because of our sturdy structure and perfect amounts of materials. We could improve it by making the sail more curvy and light so that it can glide easier and faster. But overall we did a good job and hope to do better.
