Fleet Of Foot By Paula Morris
“Grandma called him Tamihana, but he was Tame to us – and Tom in the city.”
He changed his name to where he was because he wanted to fit in and have a name that people can spell and say properly.
He used Tom because he knew that others would know how to pronounce it and people wouldn’t say his name wrong.
This quote shows that to fit into the city, Tame had to change his name to a name known by a lot of people that it was very rare that anyone got it wrong. The Name meant the same but was written into a different language that others would understand.
