In the novel Lord of the flies by William Golding, an important relationship between Jack and Ralph. At the start they appeared friendly and acted like they would work really well together. This was evident when Ralph was voted in as the leader. Jack was embarrassed and as a consolation prize, Ralph offers him the role of the head of the hunters as a way of pacifying him. In my opinion this was a very bad idea, because bad things started to happen like the senseless murder of their friend Simon. The relationship there was two characters highlighted their contrasting values.
Jack focused on himself and hunting and in contract, Ralph focused on the well-being of the group. There was big differences between the pair and it had caused many problems throughout the book. The two boys both have very different opinions, for example Ralph tries to calm down the rest of the boys on the island by saying “there is no Beasty” while Jack is saying the total opposite by saying “we’re part of a tribe, we’re hunters, together were strong enough to kill the beast”. This is really the root of all the problems in the book Lord of the flies.
