Science- Making Atoms

Kia ora, Today I am here with another blog post about Making Atoms, Last week, we made model atoms.

Aim:

The aim was to make a model atom and to understand how they work.

Method:

  1. The first thing we need to do is to find an element. The element that I did was Oxygen,
  2. The next thing we did was to list the materials we needed. The materials I used was colour paper, yellow and pink, beads, blue-protons, green-neutrons and red-electrons, we need 8 each, string and tape.
  3. Then we had to cut the paper into circles, one for the nucleus and how many you need for the outside of the nucleus.
  4. Next, I had to figure out how many beads we need for our elements.
  5. Lastly, we had to assemble it with our beads, colour paper, string, tape and I had to make an info card, so that way the teacher knows what we did and what element we did.

Results:

Discussion:

We had 8 protons, 8 electrons and 8 neutrons, The particles are both located in the protons and neutrons reside tightly packed in the central nucleus, while the electrons orbit the outside the nucleus. The mass number is 15 and the atomic number is 8, the numbers mean they are either in the rows and how many neutrons there are.

My facts about Oxygen:

  1. Oxygen are colourless gas that turns blue when cold, makes up most of Earth’s crust and comes mostly from the ocean.
  2. Tiny ocean plants are called ‘plankton’ produce about half of the oxygen in the Earth’s atmosphere.

Conclusion:

My atom making worked, we did the right neutrons, electrons and protons in the right circles and I am very proud of it. What we could have done better was to make the circle more circular.

Thank you for looking at my blog post!
