Kia Orana!
We celebrated Cook Islands Language Week by exploring the story of Tapuaetai (One Foot Island)!
The children had so much fun retelling the legend using Lego, blocks, and drawings – and even recorded their retellings on the iPads! We sang the ‘īmene “Aro’a mai Te Atua iā’ku”, counted to 10 (ta’i, rua, toru…), and learned words like kia orana, ka kite, meitaki, vaka, ‘ei katu, and tīvaevae.
The children worked so hard capturing their ideas on paper and screen, and then on Friday we enjoyed a wonderful assembly filled with the sounds of drumming, music, and dance. Ask your child if they can sing a line of our song, count to 10, or share the legend of One Foot Island!
