Baking Honey Biscuits

Today our class baked honey biscuits. We were split into 3 groups. My group had me, Ruzzel as the team leader, John and Carl.

The baking began after morning tea. Each group gathered at their own tables and got their ingredients. I did the first step, I measured 180g of self-raising flour. The class shared a weighing scale so we could know that we’re using the right amount. I put the flour in a cup and placed it on top of the weighing scale. Ruzzel’s task was to cut 120g of butter. We didn’t have a knife, so we used the top of a spoon instead. Even though using a spoon definitely took longer, it still worked.

John measured 120g of sugar. He poured it in the bowl that had butter in it. We all took turns beating the butter and sugar together while Carl took our photos . Some people even tried tasting the mixture, they said it was disgusting. The next step was to crack an egg into the bowl, but nobody wanted to do it. So I offered to do the task. I often crack eggs at home while helping my mom cook. I cracked the egg in the bowl and Ruzzel used a whisk to mix it together. John added a bit of cinnamon into the bowl for some flavour.

We slowly add flour into the mixture. I put teaspoons of flour in the bowl one by one while Ruzzel mixed it. We were at the final step. Even though we were all tired, we kept going. At last shape the dough into balls and roll them in sugar and cinnamon. When we finished, me and Ruzzel went to the office kitchen to cook them for 12 minutes.

While the biscuits were in the oven, Ruzzel and I washed the dishes. The rest of the group wiped and cleaned the table. By the time we were finished tidying up, the biscuits finished baking. Our group’s batch had 12 biscuits and since there were 4 of us, we got 3 each. I ate 2 of them and wrapped the 3rd in a tissue to save for my sister. She said that she wished I had brought more for her. They tasted very nice and I felt like my hard work paid off. I had a lot of fun that day.
