- Introduction -In this Unit, I have gathered cultural perspectives on death,dying, and the afterlife-By watching the movie Coco, sets a good example for the cultural afterlife. I also included research on the Black Death (The Plague) and explored how these affect an individual’s well-being or Hauroa. LINK. LINK. LINK
- Explain how you demonstrated respect towards others cultural beliefs that are different from yours. How would showing respect enhance others Hauroa?-I demonstrate respect towards others cultural beliefs by following their cultural unique customs. For example in Japan, bowing at a specific angle communicates levels of respect and greetings. In contrast, I would just say “Hello” or a handshake. Showing respect enhances other Hauroa. For Taha Hinegaro (Mental), showing respect can secure their safety and make them feel valued. Taha Wairua (Spiritual), it honors their identity, values and heritage which shows a sense of dignity and peace. Taha Whanau (Social), It builds mutual trust and strengthens there’s bonds between different communities.
- Why is it important to care for all areas of Hauora during times of change, loss or grief? Use Te Whare Tapa Wha to explain how each area of Hauora can be affected during change, loss and grief and give examples of ways you can support your well-being.-It is important to care for all areas of Hauora during change, loss or grief, because if ones wall is damaged, the entire structure becomes unstable. For instance, emotional grief can lead to exhaustion or poor sleep, while isolating themselves from loved ones can damage social support.
- Pick a topic – Plague
- Explain what your chosen topic for investigation is about.– The plague is about a significant outbreak around the 14th and 15th centuries. This disease wiped out half of the Eurpoe’s population. Doctors uniforms were sometimes a long trench coat and beak masks filled with aromatic substances like herbs, spices and even onions to filter out the foul odors of decay.

– The bacterial infection wiped out 60% of Europe’s population. Also the disease was primarily spread through bites from infected fleas carried by black rats, which thrived in the unhygienic conditions. There were people who informed others about the outbreak (World Health Organization). Yet, there was a treatment, laborers died, and the surviving peasants demanded higher wages and better working conditions. To protect coastal cities, the port of Regusa required ships to sit at anchor for 40 days to ensure no illness was aboard before landing. Taha Tinana: The painful symptoms of the disease and the massive death toll. Taha Hinengara: The extreme terror, panic, grief felt by survivors as their loved ones died. Taha Wairua: People losing their faith in God or the church because prayers did not stop the sickness. Taha Whanau: families and communities collapsed due to others abandoning sick relatives out of fear. Short-term Negative Impact on Hauora: The outbreak destroyed physical (Taha Tinana) and Social (Taha Whanau) areas. It wiped out up to 60% of Europe’s population. It of sheer terror, families abandoned each other. Long-term Positive Impact: Because so many workers died, the surviving peasants could demand higher wages. This broke the unfair system, improving the long-term living standards and physical health (Taha Tinana). LINK. LINK
