Hey bloggers! This week in reading, I have been working on my reading create tasks.
Our WALT was to make inferences using explicit and implicit evidence, justifying them with the text, and comparing our ideas with others.

Create Task 1
For my first create task, I did Two Truths and a Lie. I found two real facts from the text about my chosen species and made up one fake one.

For my second create task, I designed a Pokémon card for my species. I used direct quotes for the explicit details. Then I used my implicit knowledge to make up its special powers.

For my third create task, I did a “Survival Secrets” Case File. I read the text and filled out a survival profile document for a plant or animal. I also watched a video to tell me about implicit and explicit information.

My chosen Species:
- Explicit Fact: What does the text directly state about this creature’s physical features or behavior? Write down exact quotes or facts from pages 5–8.
- Kakapo eat plants at ground level and are noisy and slow.
- Implicit Inference: What can you infer about why this feature helped them survive in ancient New Zealand? (What does the author suggest without saying directly?)
- I think that Kakapo are Smart Birds.
- Justification: Explain how your explicit text evidence supports your inference. Use sentence starters like: “The text says… which tells me that…” or “I inferred this because…”
- Because in the text it says they learned how to freeze in place and camouflaging their feathers.
What I Learnt
I learnt how to tell the difference between explicit info (facts right on the page) and implicit info (reading between the lines using my own brain power).
Reflection
I really liked making the Pokémon card because it was fun to invent the powers. Finding implicit clues was a bit hard at the start, but the games made it much easier.
