How to launch a water rocket.

We have been learning about forming hypotheses to predict the results of experiments. We used water rockets to experiment and checked our results.

We went outside and put a plastic bottle filled with a third of water then you put it on the launcher and pump air into it with an air pump then you pull a string and the bottle goes flying up and across the way that the wind is going.

Then we went inside and did instructional writing about how to launch it.

Here is my instructional writing.

How to launch a water rocket 

 

Equipment 

  • 2L plastic bottle
  • Air pump
  • Water
  • Aquapod rocket launcher
  • String for pressure release 
  • U peg for stand
  • Safety glasses 

Open field

Method

  1. First put a pair of safety goggles on so that you are not sprayed in the eye. Place the Aquapod rocket launcher in an open space with no trees around a field or a  park is a good place for this.
  2. Next fill your 2L plastic bottle up with water until it is ⅓ full, then put it in the bottle launcher by attaching the bit where you drink from onto the bottle stand.
  3. Next place the U peg over the Aquapod rocket launcher and push down with your foot so the peg goes into the ground until it is sturdy enough that it would not go flying.
  4. Then plug the air pump into the aquapod rocket launcher piece so that when you press down on the pedal air goes in.
  5. Push down the pump until the PSI gets to about 35 then tie the string around the fake cap on the aquapod rocket launcher so that when you pull the string it turns the safety lock and the  bottle goes flying.
  6. Well done you have successfully launched your rocket

Mounts and thrust

If you put a lot of water in a bottle rocket and then put the air in it, it will not go as high as a third of the bottle rocket filled with water.

 

But if you put no water in the bottle rocket it will just do flips in the air  and would not go far.

 

If it was 75% then it would do the same thing as if it was full because there is still too much water in the bottle rocket.
