In science class, I have been learning about the Hui, a native New Zealand bird that is now extinct. The Huia had a long, curved beak, a long tail, and shiny black feathers. Its beak helped it find food in trees, while its long tail helped it balance. Over many generations, these useful traits became common, because Huia with helpful adaptations, were more likely to survive and reproduce. Learning about the Huia has help me understand how adaptations and natural selection work.
