Physics Balloon Rockets!
Today we kicked off our Science Fun with a focus on physics!
We were learning about movement, force, motion, actions and reactions. Bryn even introduced us to Newton’s Third Law, which was the science behind the experiment we were doing today.
Our challenge was to make balloon rockets using balloons, a peg, a straw, some string and two chairs. Working with a partner, we set up our rockets and then raced them to see what would happen.
We experimented with different amounts of air in our balloons and tried different ways of setting up our rockets. There were lots of excited faces as we watched them zoom along the string!
The students absolutely loved it!
Tomorrow we will be writing about our experiments and recording what we observed. We are really focusing on the idea that scientists notice and observe the world around them.
So, while our balloon rockets were lots of fun, we also need to think about the science behind what was happening. What did we notice? What happened when we changed something? And most importantly, why did it happen?
Tomorrow we’ll put our scientist thinking caps on and see if we can explain what we observed.
