Ski Trip Responce

Ski Trip

I zipped up my jacket and carefully walked out the classroom and in through the dark to the shadowy shape of Rachel’s car. The time was only 6:15a.m. but we had to be at Porters bright and early. I watched the sun slowly become visible as I rethought everything from, “If I had all my gear?” or “If I remembered all the ski code rules.” After deciding that chips should be a breakfast food and they tasted delicious in the morning, we started to feel the chill of the icy day coming our way.

I hauled my bag out of the endless pile to load everything on, ready for the cold weather. The slippery ice coated the rock path somehow clinging on to the racks of skis of all different sizes. My legs swooshed together rubbing against my pants and nearly jumping out of their sockets from excitement.

We gathered round our tables staring at the ski boots searching for our number when our instructors came over and introduced themselves. Carefully looking to make sure both numbers were fifteen I wandered over to the seat, took off my sunglasses and gloves and began to untie my shoes. I slipped my feet into my chunky, red, plastic boots and clunked my way down to search for my skis. After me, Kaleigh, Mercedes, Chelsea, Brooklyn, Jethro, Sharveen and Megan were ready and equipped. We hiked our way up the snow along with Aprill, our instructor, to our lesson spot.

Our start of our lesson was mainly for the beginners that hadn’t skied before and since Kaleigh, Chelsea, Mercedes and Megan and I had been before,we let the rest of them take their time. Soon enough after a couple of tries my memory was back and I started to remember how to ski again. The hardest part from the lesson was waiting in line. Since there were about three different groups going down at the same time the line was massive. We got so impatient that we decided to side step up the hill.

On the level parts it was okay but as we started to get further up we just started rolling back down again so eventually we just gave up. The beginners slope was not the funnest but the best part was the magic carpet. I slipped down to the black trail, relaxed back and enjoyed the ride. After passing many snow balls, busy groups of people and tiny skiing experts, I was ready for the intermediate slope.

I jumped on the pommer and rethought everything I needed to know to make it through down the mountain. As the seat binged through the flimsy yellow borders I slid my way down to the edge and round the corner, careful to give others in front of me space. The cold gust of wind filled my skis with icy flakes as I stayed in control and slowed down to make my way through the red netting.  Excitedly I hoped in the line once more obeying all the sighs.

Since Kaleigh and Dusty left to ride on the Advanced slope I went and found Elsie to ski with. At the top we debated who would go first . I zoomed downwards  behind Elsie like I was a snowflake drifting down through the sky when Elsie crashed. Instead of keeping going I stopped to see if she was okay.

Although we are all having fun up the slope little did we know that a very terrible crisis is happening. Climate change is affecting our slopes and it is a very serious problem. Not only does it change our environment but it also affects the creatures like lizards and insects that have already adapted to the snow. These snowy creatures are experiencing a Habitat squeeze.

The snowline is changing due to climate change which is forcing these already snow adapted creatures to move upslope to more snow. But it’s not just snow animals that have a problem pests will be moving further up the mountain since further up the mountain is warm. If we want to continue skiing we must care for our environments.

Overall the ski trip was amazing and I would love to go on it one hundred times more. The ski trip was so fun to just slide through the snow and try your hardest to make it the whole way down. I would definitely go on it again. It’s just sad that it will be my last one with school.By the end of our day although I was tired I had a fun and exciting experience behind me.
