This term, our Inquiry topic is Under the Sea! We are excited to dive into learning about the amazing creatures and habitats that live beneath the ocean. We can’t wait to explore, discover, and learn all about the underwater world together!

This week’s Duffy Certificate Winner is Pippa. She joined room 20 at the beginning of the term, and has settled into our class really well. She also always works hard and does her best in everything she does. Way to go, Pippa!

This term, Room 3 has started swimming lessons again. The Year 2 children were excited to return to the pool after learning swimming skills last year.

During our lessons, we are building on the skills we learned before. We are practising how to move safely in the water, float, kick, glide, and improve our confidence. We are also learning how to listen carefully to our swimming instructors and follow pool safety rules.

Swimming is an important life skill that helps us stay safe around water while also keeping us active and healthy. We are looking
forward to seeing everyone’s confidence and skills grow over the coming weeks.

This week two girls received a certificate for their awesome reading. Ana, for being able to sound out lots of words. And Prudence for also being able to hear the sounds in words, and work out the word. Great job, girls. You are both awesome!

Today Room 26 learnt about how we can use Google Meet to connect with our teachers and our class online. We learnt about what some of the icons in Google Meet do and Good Manners for Google Meet.

We are delighted to welcome Izaiah to our classroom. We look forward to getting to know him and are excited to have him as part of our class.

This term, our inquiry was all about the four seasons through art. We explored the unique colours, weather, and features of spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Using a variety of art techniques and materials, we created beautiful seasonal artworks inspired by nature. Along the way, we learned new vocabulary, shared our ideas, and discovered how artists use colour and texture to represent each season. It was a creative and enjoyable way to celebrate the changing seasons!

This week we are learning all about the letter B and its sound. We had a fun morning blowing bubbles and popping them while exploring our new letter of the week. We love learning a new letter and sound each week through exciting, hands-on activities!

It has been wonderful to see everyone back safe, happy, and ready for another exciting term of learning!

This term, we will be focusing on producing high-quality work and always trying our personal best. We will challenge ourselves to think deeply, show resilience when learning gets tricky, and take pride in everything we create.

There are lots of exciting learning experiences, creative activities, and new challenges ahead. Let’s continue to work together, support one another, and make Room 5 a place where everyone feels safe, respected, and inspired to learn.

Our last bit of learning for the term was about the celebration of Matariki. We learned it is the Maori New Year and a time for reflection and preparation for the year ahead. There are nine stars in the Matariki cluster and in early times, the night sky was an important part of daily life for Maori. The changes would tell them when it was time to plant and harvest crops, to hold ceremonies and to celebrate. The stars have connections to the environment and people’s lives.

We created a night sky using coloured chalk on black cardboard and then cut out a silhouette of the landscape to show contrast and depth. Then we added the nine stars which were kindly folded into tiny stars by our friends in Room 7. This is what they look like:

We also created some stars using wool and a round cardboard shape that looks like a clock (numbered 1 – 12.) We wove the wool from different numbers evenly around the circular shape. We had to be careful to count evenly as we worked our way around the circle. Some of us used two or three different colours. We are very happy with the outcome:

This term, our inquiry was to do with curiosity. We used our five senses to explore nature. First, we went on an exciting leaf scavenger hunt around our school. We found so many cool leaves. Next, we brought them inside to sort them into groups and practice using descriptive words. We wrote about our outdoor adventures and shared all the things we saw and touched. After that, we made up our own five senses poems. To finish our inquiry, we learned how to make dot art. It was so much fun!.





Today as part of Chinese Language Week, we read the story of Mei-Ling and the Dragon, focusing on the importance of courage. We then enjoyed bringing our story to life by creating our own dragon puppets, while practicing our fine motor skills.

Reading is fun because it takes us on exciting adventures, helps us learn new things, and grows our brains every time we read.

We have loved building houses with our friends while developing our teamwork and communication skills.
