It has been a busy two weeks with lots of fun activities alongside our regular classroom programmes. We celebrated Samoan Language Week last week. Room 4 created siapo patterns using crayon and dye. We also had a lot of fun riding our bikes on “Wheels Day.”  This week we learnt all about Sri Lanka to celebrate International Language Week when we acknowledge different cultures within our school. We learnt to write our names in Sinhala. Some of us even spoke a few phrases in Sinhala at assembly.  We are thrilled with the new furniture we have in our classroom. The design and colours were chosen by us.

In this week’s Cybersmart lesson we had a go at recreating some creative mythical creatures on Explain Everything. We had multiple choices and drew them how we saw them in our minds. We had a lot of fun and even though it was tricky we kept on trying our best. Check out our cool pictures!

Our question for our Curiosity unit was How was the Earth Made.  We watched a video about this and learnt that space dust and ice banged together with the help of a meteorite. We also learnt about the layers of the earth and had fun using Playdough to make our earths and cut them open to see the layers.

Today, Room 7 was lucky enough to see the performance Treasure Hunt based around 3 books for book week. The books were  “The Big Boil Up,”The Only Dinosaur at School,” and “A Guide to Rocks.”   Room 7 enjoyed this performance very much.  We like how:

• The two actors worked as a team.
• We liked how the students were included.
• We liked doing the battle cries.
• Jess and her accents
• The changes of costumes.

The messages in the story were:

• Talking about your feelings makes the load lighter
• Talk about your heritage at home
• Being different is ok.

As part of our inquiry topic today Room 3 looked at how we can look after our enviroment. We disscussed different ways we could look after our enviroment  at school and at home. To support their learning Room 3 students then used their ipads to create a poster video. Check our these students work they create below.

Room 27 has been learning lots of new skills using their ipads. Today we learnt to change the border and fill colour and duplicate our shapes. What shapes can you see? Let us know in the comments.

Our PALS team has done a fantastic job leading lunchtime activities and encouraging students to get involved. We also created informative posters about the digestive system to showcase our discovery learning. In writing, we have been creating reflective pieces, using descriptive language to explain how our kites represent the people we want to become and the values we hope to show in the future. This week marks our fourth arts rotation as we continue preparing for our end-of-term art exhibition. We have also been practising for Samoan Language Week and are looking forward to hosting cultural games, quizzes, visual arts activities, performances and storytelling.

This term we have been enjoying our library sessions in the library. When we have been in the library we have been learning about what makes a good reader. We have also enjoyed the stories that the librarians have shared with us.

This week was International Language week.  Room 4 learnt about Sri Lanka at Sinhala which is one of the languages spoken in the country. This is presentation created by Moari and Tiana.

We are getting good at using the drawing tools to create. Today we chose our favourite drawing to share.



Our next question for our Curiosity topic is – Why don’t we feel the earth spin. This video explains what we did and what we learnt.

Room 7 students learnt about some native skinks and geckos that were moved from Transmission Gully in Wellington and then returned after the motorway was built. The students then created their own poster with facts about geckos and skinks. Room 7 enjoyed learning about these little creatures.

This week has been Samoan Language Week. We had an amazing assembly today for it.

This Thursday we had our very first Cybersmart lesson with Mr Hughes. He will be visiting us once a week on a Thursday to teach us how we can Learn, Create, and Share on our iPads.

Today we were learning about how to look after our devices; being careful when we move around the classroom, our gentle “butterfly” hands and how we put them down our tables. Once we showed Mr Hughes that we knew how to look after our iPads, we had to get started. We used a program called Explain Everything to do some fun drawings. It’s a lot of fun being creative with our devices.

 Talofa Lava. We celebrated Samoan Language Week and our tamaiti enjoyed learning about the language, culture, and traditions of beautiful Samoa. We have been working very hard on our artwork for the upcoming Art Exhibition and are taking great pride in our creations. We have also been using our iPads regularly to support our learning and we are becoming more confident and capable with technology. In maths, we have been learning about 2 and 3 dimensional shapes and have enjoyed exploring shapes through hands-on activities, including shape scavenger hunts around the classroom. We had an amazing time during wheels day and we enjoyed showing our skills and some of us even learnt how to ride a bike! Malo lava, Room 6! Manuia le vaiaso.
