Room 6 have had an awesome week learning about place value, adjectives, adverbs and short and long vowels. There is so much learning happening! This week Room 6 worked very hard to create a video to promote Respect and Resilience in sports. We learned that we always have to use kind words, never give up and keep trying, also to be a good sport! Can you remember to do all of these? As part of our inquiry learning, Room 1  explored the school fields and collected a range of natural items such as leaves, sticks, acorn and feathers. They observed the different textures, shapes, and colours they found in nature.

Back in the classroom, students shared their natural treasures with their peers and talked about what they had collected. They enjoyed listening to each other and noticing the variety of items gathered by the class.

Using their collected materials, students then created nature inspired artworks. They showed creativity and care as they arranged their pieces, resulting in beautiful and individual creations.

Today in Room 3 we enjoyed creating some special Mother’s Day poems for our mums. We had fun coming up with different words and sentences to describe our mum.

Today we had lots of fun in the Flying Fives room building lots of different things  with Whaea Bailey and Miss Potter. We learnt that how to share and how to use teamwork when we we building our things. These are some of the creations we made.

This week, our class enjoyed a lovely walk around the Panmure Basin together. The weather was beautiful, and the students were excited to explore our local community while spending time outdoors with their classmates.

As we walked around the basin, we admired the stunning autumn colours and noticed the changes in the trees and leaves around us. The children enjoyed looking at the beautiful scenery, listening to nature, and sharing conversations with friends along the way.

Our walk was a wonderful opportunity to learn more about our community, appreciate the natural environment, and enjoy being active together. Everyone showed excellent behaviour and represented our class proudly throughout the trip.

Last Tuesday Constable Gordon came to our classroom. He is a policeman who goes to schools to teach students how to walk safely across a road. When we walk along a footpath, we need to remember to walk on the ‘house side’ so that we are away from the kerb. Also, when we want to cross any road, we need to “Stop. Look. Listen.”

On Thursday, we walked in pairs down to the pedestrian crossing outside our gate. Constable Gordon held our hands and we had to “Stop. Loo and Listen” before we crossed safely to the other side.

Then we walked down the road and we had to check for ‘sneaky’ driveways. These are driveways that we can’t see down because there is a fence or bushes in the way. If a car is reversing the light is white and we need to stop. It can be hard for drivers to see sometimes if there are pedestrians walking past.

This is an example of a ‘sneaky’driveway.

On Friday, we had the best day with Constable Gordon because he brought his police car and parked it on the grass. He showed us a booster car seat which is for children who are under 7 years old to use. Otherwise, everyone has to wear a seatbelt to be safe.

We had turns to wear a policeman’s helmet and a vest. We all sat inside his car and we drove around the field and the siren was really loud. He even honked the horn which was as loud as the siren. Only Luis and John got to speak on the loud speaker. It was so much fun and we learned a lot too.

This week, Room 1 students expressed their ideas by creating pictures that showed what reading looks like and feels like to them. It was lovely to see the different ways students connected with reading.

Room 1 students explored different textures by creating their own monsters. They drew eyes and teeth, then collaged using a variety of textured papers. Learners enjoyed experimenting with different materials and showing their creativity. Their monster creations were proudly shared with the class.

In today’s Cybersmart lesson with Mr Hughes we spent time being CREATIVE!

He gave us some different choice of what we could create.

We used our imaginations and our EE skills to create some awesome creations.

Room 6

Today we had lots of fun in our Cybersmart lesson with Mr Hughes. On EE he taught us how to insert different emoji’s. We then had ago praticing our new skill, while talking  selifes of ourselves showing our chosen emjoi. Afterwards we learnt how to spell our chosen emoji.

We learnt how to lasso our photos today. We can use the undo tool to try again if we need to.
This was our first time using the tool. We are very proud of our efforts.

We had a lovely time at the park where kids can be kids, enjoy themselves, and playing. They cherished this meaningful time with their friends and got a break from the classroom. We also played pass the parcel and had a delightful picnic with our teddy bears.

We are so excited to be back at school for Term 2! This term, we will be exploring ways to express ourselves through arts and drama. The Team 1 teachers have created a special movie for our immersion assembly—we hope you enjoy watching it as much as we enjoyed making it!

This term we are learning to be Curious. Our for Inquiry is Curiosity. Last term the students came up with things that they were curious about. Our first topic to inspire Curiosity was borrowed from the Summer Learning Journey and thinking about making a prosthetic leg for an elephant.  Here are two examples from Abigail and Jeanro.

Our inquiry topic is Curiosity.We have created a false leg called a prothsetic for Mosha.I decided to coloured it with my favorite colors.And thats all!

This week, our class has been learning about our school’s CARE Values — Confidence, Attitude, Respect, and Excellence. We discussed what each value looks like in our classroom, playground, and everyday learning.

As part of our learning, the students created colourful posters to share their understanding of each value and explain how we can show them at school. The children worked hard to think of real-life examples and present their ideas clearly and creatively.

We talked about:

• showing Confidence by trying new things, speaking clearly, and completing work independently
• having a positive Attitude by focusing on learning and never giving up
• showing Respect by being kind, friendly, and caring towards others
• striving for Excellence by doing our best and helping to keep our school environment tidy and safe

The students enjoyed designing their posters and sharing their ideas with classmates. It was wonderful to see everyone reflecting on how we can make our classroom a positive and supportive place for learning.

We are proud of the thoughtful work and effort our students have shown while learning about our CARE values!

This week Room 1 students learned about ANZAC Day, a special day when we remember the soldiers from World War I. We talked about how people wear poppy flowers to show respect and remembrance for those who served and lost their lives.

The students loved painting poppy flowers using watercolours and showed creativity in their work.

This week, we focused on learning and practicing the letter b. The students explored this new letter by listening to the /b/ sound and thinking of simple words like ball, bat, and banana. The learners then practiced writing the letter b in their handwriting books. They worked carefully on forming the letter, starting at the top, moving down, and then around.

We are very proud of Pelenatita who has had her story titled “My Taonga” published in the latest issue of the Aho Korero series.  Well done, Pele! You have inspired the rest of us to keep working at our writing and submitting our work to be published. So watch this space!!
