Magnificent Monologue

In room 9 we have been working on monologues for reading .We did some research to find a 1 minute monologue for kids.I choose a monologue about how ¨you cant make me like school¨.In this activity we are  learning to have good fluency and phasing.I really enjoyed this activity and found it really fun.Next time I think I could slow down when I read.

What are you doing in reading at the moment ?

The Scientific day

Yesterday we did science like building with pasta and marshmallows, cup and string well It’s called cup phone and a gummy bear experiment the gummy bear in the water absorbed half of the water and the vinegar  made it slippery and shiny. The building with pasta and marshmallows was so fun. Me, Jacob-m and Lukah made a pyramid with an antena thing. The marshmallows were used for keeping the pasta together. Do you want to see the photos?

The gummy bear one was so cool like the one in the water became bigger like that’s amazing! And the vinegar  made it slippery and shiny like how did it do that. But we did not get to put vinegar in with baking soda.

My favourite part was the cup phone. I can talk to my friend from a distance. But the line has to be straight otherwise it would not work. and I loved it.

Fun Science With Mr Ty!

Yesterday on Thursday, we  had a reliever named Mr Ty. We did science and fun challenges. First we did a gummy bear experiment where we put gummy bears in 3 different cups or capsules and in 1 we put water. In another 1 we put vinegar and in the last 1 we put baking powder and water. When we put them in they started to grow and turn white.

After morning tea we did our next experiment which is cup phones! We needed to build our cup phones by cutting a hole in the bottom and knotting the string in the holes and then we designed the cups and wa la! A cup phone! I worked by myself for this experiment.

For the last experiment, actually this is more engineering.  But we made a structure with spaghetti sticks and marshmallows. For this I buddied up with Tegan. We chose my design over Tegans because she didn’t really know what to do.  But our structure was so strong that we could stick a spaghetti stick in the middle and lift it of the table.

My Favourite part about Today was the marshmallow challenge thing and it was my favourite because we got to eat the Marshmallows at the end. My favourite thing that I learnt was how the string of the cup phone had to be straight or else you won’t hear anything. Here is a photo of the Marshmallow and spaghetti challenge!

The Scientific cool Mr Ty science projects/experiments!

Hello and yesterday we did amazing science included and understanding learning and let me tell or ask you what happened, so firstly, it was the morning and it was Thursday and he was new to New Brighton Catholic school so I asked him how he was and what was his name and he replied by I am Mr Ty and i am good thank you how are you he said and I said in a calm voice i am fantastic and then school started with the roll then went over 3 rules and when he finished the rules Nela did prayers because Mr Ty was new to our kind loving Catholic school and after prayers like we always do my favourite time to talk to god we went over the day next we cared on with our letters to Ms Danes our Principal if we finished we free write then science for science we did gummy bears 2 in water 2 in viniger 2 in baking powder then play then after play we made cup phones then play then continued our cup phones they need to not be flexible at any circumstances for it to work then noodles (dry) then marshmallows strength test then packed up and that was our day!!! Super Science: Experiments with Mr Ty

Yesterday, we had the absolute best reliever ever. His name was Mr Ty. I’ll tell you why he was so awesome.

We did lots and lots of science. The first experiment was with gummy bears! Sadly we couldn’t eat any.  Instead we got 3 jars. We filled 1 with 2 or 3 gummy bears then put water in the jar and sealed it up. In the next jar we put vinegar and gummy bears. In the last jar we put water and baking soda in it. Then we made our own. After a while, it was really, really weird.  The vinegar had made the colour brighter and a tiny bit bigger. The water had made the lollies much bigger. And the baking soda… I don’t even know how to explain it. It was like crushed up jelly, but it still had the shape of a bear.

Then, we made cup phones! For cup phones, you get 2 paper cups, tape, and string. I made mine with Anisia. We made 2, a short one which I kept, and a longer one (much longer) which Anisia kept. We talked through it and it was really fun.

The last experiment was best. We used raw spaghetti sticks and marshmallows. I did this with Mila and Quinn. Ours was very last minute as our original plan didn’t work. This experiment was structural engineering. My Favourite part was at the end when we got to eat the marshmallows.

What I learnt is you can’t just throw stuff together and see if you achieve your goal you have to work and figure out what works.

Have you ever tried these experiments?

Mr Ty and his amazing science

Yesterday there was a substitute teacher that was called Mr Ty, He was very nice and we got to do some science experiments. The first one was used with gummy bears, water, vinegar and baking soda then we had to put the gummy bears in a cup and fill it with water, vinegar or baking soda (with water) and then we got to sake it and the ones in water stayed the same and the baking soda made them turn white. Then we left them for 45 minuets and they were the same.

After we did another experiment witch was a cup phone, River and I went together and we first had to get a cup then cup a small hole in the bottom of the cup and then get some string and put it through and tie a not and then you have to go far so that the string would not fall on the floor and then we had to speak in it and the the other person can hear them. Also some people couldn’t hear so they had to put it harder on their ear.

After that we had to make a tower, bridge or anything else, we used marshmallows and pasta sticks.  Then I went with Riley and we make a triangle that can hold up heavy things. After that Mr Ty said he would put his car keys on our buildings to see if they would hold them. Sadly he couldn’t go through all of them because it was the end of the day.

My favourite part was the towers because it was hard to build because we had to stick it together with marshmallows witch was hard.

I learnt that pasta sticks are very easy to break.

Our scientific Day

On Thursaday we had a cool teacher named Mr Ty and we did since with him all day the first thing we did was… A gummy bear expererment yes I said that right gummy bear expearement, were we had two jars, vinager, baking soada and water we could make any combanahon a part from vinager and baking soada!! Then we went to play when we got back the warter was so blury brown and ever thing we then touched all of the bears they felt slipery, slimy and just weird!

Then we did  one that you could make at home it was such a cool experment we needed sring, paper/plastic cups and some sisers then we had to stap a hole in the bottem of the cup put the string through it and tied a not at the end so it will not come loose! Then if you repeat that on the other side you will get a cup phone! If you  have made it that far you jst get somebody to put there ear in one side and then you talk in to it and you can here the other person but we learnt if the string was not tight that it would block the sound and you would not be able to hear!

After that was Made some house this leason was based on engernering we used marsh mellows and raw paster we had to make a soild structure mine was the a house I made it with masie it was so fun to play with then well we were packing up we got to eat the marsh mellows it was dielushish then we all went home it was such a fun day!

Are Cool Substitute Teacher Mr Ty : Sience

Yesterday we had a substitute teacher called Mr Ty. The cool part was that we got too do science pretty much for the whole day. And another cool part was that we got to do it about engineering. At first I thought we might be making cars out of sticks or something but that’s not what we did. We made a bridge out of raw pasta and marshmallows! But my favourite part was eating the project at the end (even the raw pasta which I thought wasn’t edible) but pretty yummy.

The next experiment we did was about what would happen if you put gummy bears in either vinegar or baking soda but they both had to have water in it as well. My group had some cool differences from when they had just came out of the packet and after we took them out of the vinegar or baking soda. The gummy bears that were in the vinegar had expanded and they were very very slippery when we touched them. And the baking soda was different to that. The gummy bears that were in the baking soda had stayed the same size but had kind of fell apart a little bit and they were not very slippery.

But last and not least the cup phone experiment. We had to have to cups and a piece of string. You had to poke a hole in the bottom of both cups and tie a knot in both ends of the string and put them through the hole and tape it up. ( I used way too much tape). But in the end the cup phones worked! They were so fun to use and I made a joke about when the string came out it was like you were hanging up on the other person. Thank you Mr Ty we had such a fun time with you.

Our Amazing Substitute teacher

Yesterday our class had a sub in to teach us. His name was Mr Ty I did science which was really cool we started with the gummy bears, here ´ s what we did we got gummy bears and put it in the container after that we filled the containers up with water, vinegar and baking soda. We went to morning tea while we were at morning tea, stuff happened to the gummy bears.

We also made cup phones mine did not work at first so we fixed it. Riley and I made it he let me take it home. It was really fun.

Lastly we tried to make a tower bridge thingy with River and it had to be made out of spaghetti and marshmallows! It turned into a mess but it was so fun!

My favourite part was the bridge bit because it was hard but is was very cool.

I learnt that pasta is fragile.

Super Science With Mr Ty

Yesterday we had a super kind  substitute teacher  called Mr Ty  we did lots of science  . First we saw what gummy bears and vinegar look like after 30 minute it felt very weird   we also did baking soda that was  weirder than the vinegar it look like it had sugar  but , it was  baking soda .

Second we made cup phones I did it with Quinn we made a short one we decorated it and talked Though I loved it, it is hard to stick the rope to each cup . Last but not least we did engineering with marshmallow  and raw  spaghetti sticks I did this with zeta and Quinn we made something like a pyramid all together it was very hard to resist the marshmallows  for all of us !

Science! (Marshmallows!)

On Thursday We did some science with Mr Ty our reliever and for some reason we mostly used food like marshmallows and gummy bears!

For our first science project we put gummy bears into Water, vinegar, and baking soda. After morning tea we looked at what happened to the gummy bears, It was weird! The gummy bears turned soggy and yucky. I enjoyed it but I also think it was disgusting!

Our second project we made cup thones, I buddied up with my friend Brighton and made one each. After everyone  made one each we joined them together and the sound was carried out! I enjoyed creating with my friends and I want to try it with my family!

For our last experiment we made structures out of marshmallows and spaghetti strings in groups. I made a tower with Anisia and Brighton my two best Friends. It was fun and when we packed it all up, we got to eat the marshmallows! that was really my favorite part!

Have you made something in science like me?

Here are some photos of what I made with my Friends…

Mr Ty since

On Thursday  we had a substitute teacher and his name was Mr Ty! Me and Braxtyn were buddy up! We did since  the whole day and the experiments were gummy bears getting put in water, baking  soda and vinegar,  telephone cups and building with marshmallows and pasta sticks ! The gummy bears were really cool because mine became crystallised and really soft. Braxtyn’s be came gooey.  I found that vinegar and baking soda would act like a coke getting shaken was interesting.
The next one was telephone cups me and Braxtyn we were still buddy up so we made a huge string to tie to the cup and it went from the blue line to the other blue line and we could hear each other like this t21hkli;ad’aisdjanolima ap’sd’awd’a a’;idsjainl’ ‘a da’ld ( hello my name is jeffy boy!)
The next one is making a shape out of pasta and marshmallows me and Zavian made a square but then we made it triangle! It looked like a strong triangle then we got to DESTROYED IT!

Science creates

This week we had a substitute teacher, his name was Mr Ty. He was so fun and nice. I want him to be our teacher if our teacher is sick! Because he does so many science experiments. We did three Science experiments. The first experiment was where you had a gummy bear, a jar, baking soda, vinegar and water. First you grab a jar and fill it up with water and let it set till after play it was not moving! Next was baking soda vinegar and water! IT EXPLODED. And that was that! Next we had a to build the cup phones. Cup phones and just a phone but you can’t do anything. First you get a long piece of string and a cup and you put a hole in the cup and then stick your string but before you stick the string in you need to do a note and then put it in. And there you got a Cup phone! Our next Science experiment was a marshmallow and raw pasta building competition, you had to make a strong or tall building out of marshmallows and raw pasta. It was so hard and interesting. I learnt that making a marshmallow building is so hard! My teammate was Leo! Heres a photo.

Epic Cool Reading

To my way of thinking I would say yes to banning plastic from school. Because of these following Questions. Firstly, WE WILL NOT GET FISH AN CHIPS! anymore because of the rubbish in the sea killing all the animals. Secondly, it will make our land, beaches and animals all look good. Thirdly The reason the plastic is bad is because it never goes away and when it goes to the dump it breaks and slips into our water if there is a water patch near you go have a look at it will look rainbow and it is killing all the animals in the sea. Fourly It spreads all across New Zealand and a lot of it  makes a big patch

Percentages Poster

                                      Percentages Poster

During the few weeks we have been working on percentages, we learnt how to use them in our math, I found them really challenging but once I got use to them they get easier.

Than we had to make a math poster about percentages, Here is my poster:

We were able to choose what to do it about and I picked a phone case and I used Canva to create it.

Here is the percentage poster.

We had to figure out the new price, can you do it without looking at the answers?

Have you ever done this for maths before.

Percentages Poster

We have been learning about percentages and we made an advertisement poster and used percentages to give  it a discount. My discount is 51% off and the regular  price is $1000.  So 51%  off $1000 is $490. This is my poster .  Have you ever learnt percentages?  If you have do you find it easy or hard.
