My algebra explanation video

Kia Ora, 👋

Upstairs in RM 10, us tamariki have been learning about algebraic questions. Learning that when you are solving big math equations fast, simplifying a word down can save so much time! For example, you have one more step to complete your equation. You worked out every step and now you have to figure out this last bit… 54000071 x 3! WOW you think to yourself, I don’t have enough space to write that all out. Instead, Im going to give that number a letter(a). So the simplified equation now becomes, a x 3. It still works out to have the same answer, just saves space.

Our Teacher gave us a task to explain how to work out x + 9 = 21 on camera. For this activity, I used an app called  Screen cast to record my problem solving. I like working out algebra because its similar to riddles. An easy Way I like to work it out is writing out the question, for example, x + 7 = 42. To figure out what x equals, you need to start from right to left when working out. So it would look more like this 42 = 7 + x, now we need to change the = & + to = & -.

42 – 7 = 35, so your answer would be 35. To have a look at this visually, here’s my video. I hope You have learned something new.

Do you like working out algebra questions?

Math polypad

In math we had to use polypad to work out. this is second time using polypad  and it was fun to use and goofy around with it. How I worked out this was the first thing I did was work out that x was 12 and then I made 21 20 and 1 and then it was solved. Down below is the polypad work. first thing to do is 21 – 9 = 12 so that means that x is 12 and then make x 12  so you can see it ez to work and then make 21 20 and 1.

The 9 and the 12 and + and 20 and 1 are -.

have you used polypad before?

Percentage poster!

This week we room 9 have been looking at percentages. Percentages is basically a fraction out of one hundred so like 10% of one hundred is ten. There are many ways on how to find out how how much a percent is worth.  I enjoyed doing fractions because I got to make this poster and it was fun to make. I made a poster and I took 45% off of the original price. Would you buy this watch? why or why not?

Speeches ! 📝🗣

12th September, 2026.

In kapa Iwa we have been learning to write speeches. I wrote a speech about wellbeing and information about it. Our speech had to be no longer than 2 minutes but I just went over by 10 seconds! So technically I made it. Some of my friends did theirs about mental health, social media and more cool things. My speech took a lot of time but my mum helped me with part of the speech. When we were done writing our speeches our teacher Matua Nick printed out our speeches and we got to put our speech on cards. Here is my speech about wellbeing.

A great visit from Jonah the humpback whale !! 🌊 🐋

Hello,

On Friday, August 14th, Jonah the inflatable humpback whale came to NBC. Each class spent about 45 minutes in the hall learning about humpback whales, their outer body parts, and how those parts help them. Then after listening to the instructor, we all finally got to go inside Jonah and see his internal body parts.

But since we couldn’t all fit inside of Jonah at the same time, we were split into two different groups. One group went inside to learn about the internal body parts, while the other group did a humpback whale word search and coloured in a picture.

ABOUT JONAH

Jonah was much bigger than I expected. Not only was he as tall as the hall he was as wide as the hall too. Taking up most of the space. If you didn’t know, Jonah is a 12 metre-long, life-sized inflatable humpback whale used by project jonah to teach children and communities about marine conservation across New Zealand. Lastly did you know in New Zealand there are only 3 life-sized inflatable humpback whales to be created and Jonah is one of them.

It was really cool, at first when I heard we were allowed to go inside I thought everyone was joking but when I went in myself I was shocked and realised how lucky I was. But I did imagine that there would be more pictures of the whales internal body parts. As in labels pointing towards what’s what and explaining what they help and do for the whale and more dark realistic colours on the inside than there was. Otherwise I had both a great time and experience.

Have you ever been inside a life-sized inflatable animal?

Ripple Effect

Bonjour,

For the past few weeks the intermediates and some of the year 6s from downstairs have been working on creating a kindness video, spreading awareness that kindness goes along way like a chain of kindness. Inspired by the Kindness Boomerang – One Day video.

Here is the video if you would like to watch it, and believe me when I tell you this! It is so worth the watch.

Once we took some notes and planned out how our video should act out we recorded ourselves until everything went as planned and felt right. During this activity, there were 6 main things that had to be included in order to present the correct video and  judge ourselves at the end.

We had to have music that actually fit in with our act, credits to the actors, helpers, just basically anyone who took action, a title, a bible verse based on kindness, our school values, and lastly how we showed kindness. The people I worked with were Lilia, Leisha, Kiara, and Despina I think we did such a good job and all had great ideas, other than that I really did enjoy this activity it was nice and simple.

What did you think about the video we took as inspiration?

And lastly, after watching our video what was your favourite act of kindness?

This is our Kindness video, enjoy! But please do remember to be kind whenever possible. As it is always possible.
