Manaiakalani:
It was great to have a refresh of the origins of Manaiakalani today from Dorothy. A key takeaway for me was that often when people hear ‘Manaiakalani’ they think of devices, but really it is all about the people. I enjoyed the metaphor about the pencil!
Google Drive:
We will be starting using Chromebooks from next week for all learning. I liked the hint to teach our students to name a document with their initials in the beginning; this will definitely help me identify whose work I am looking at from a quick glance. I will run some mini lessons on using the ‘organise’ feature in Google Drive too. I especially like the colour coding feature – this is something I did not know about.
Google Docs:
The content about Google Docs. was all familiar to me, so this was a little boring. I did, however, enjoy learning about remove.bg – this is definitely a tool I will use to tidy up images.
It was good to see that things that I would ordinarily create, or encourage my students to create, on Canva or Google Slides can be done on Google Docs. This is definitely a resource that I have been underutilising.
The image is attached is an example of how I could utilise Google Docs. for my weekly Reading taskboards going forward.
