| 2. What is a service and therapy animal? What are the similarities and differences between service and therapy animals | A service animal is trained to work or perform tasks for those with a condition or disability.
A therapy animal is different to a service animal as they aren’t trained live with a handler/owner. The difference between the service and therapy animals is that service animals are given to a specific individual with a disability to help around with their daily life, while therapy animals is used in a way to help people cope with and recover from some physical and mental health conditions. The similarities between service and therapy animals are they are both used in a similar way except the therapy animals doesn’t live with the individual but still helps that individual just like a service animal would do, but in a different way, like helping the person deal with anxiety or stress. |

| 3. State which conditions are eligible for a service or therapy animal in NZ | There are many conditions that are eligible for a therapy or a service animal in NZ such as helping the individual to pick up things from top shelves, or picking up things for the person from a far or crowded place.
There are some laws/rules around service animals like the animal must wear a vest to let others know that the animal is a service animal to prevent any confusion to other people. |

List 4 interesting OR new things that you have learned from this unit of work | The 4 most interesting/or new things that I have learned during this unit of work are some states don’t allow any specific animals such as snakes, monkeys and other wild animals to be used as a service animal because it is unsanitary for the environment, some states banned service and therapy animals, people are protesting against the government to put an end to people using animals as a helper, and the last one is that service animals could lead to a huge impact to your life by giving you hope.
I found these points interesting because people still think that disabled people do not need to use animals as their companions because they think that it is cruel, I think that the animals are also enjoying their life spending time with them, animals don’t mind living with a human at all and the last thing is some people are desperate to ban service animals because they think it can cause deadly diseases around the community. |
