Ratana Visit

RATANA

Early on Monday morning, we went in the school van to head to Ratana, a small town 15 minutes out of Whaganui.

When we arrived at Ratana, we parked next to a big church, later finding out it was a kind of temple.

When we hopped out of the vans, we were greeted by our tour guide, his name was Tutere, he would be the one guiding us through the town.

We were then shortly after given a sheet of paper that had boxes that needed to be filled out slowly as we went throughout town. When we were given the pieces of paper, he told us a story of his upbringing in Ratana and how he found it quite enjoyable, also explaining how he brought his kids up there.

After his story, he led us to a really old house, the first house to ever be built in Ratana, the person who had owned that house was the person who the town was named after, T.W.Ratana, he was a icon and famous person in that town back in the day, he was said to be a man of God, he had visions sent from God making him really famous among his people.

Or so we were told by Tutere as he explained from his perspective of what he was told at our age.

My favourite part of this trip was getting to be able to go to the part and make an extremely long daisy chain that I handed to my friends.
