AIM:
To see how acidic or basic different solutions are.
EQUIPMENT:
- spot plate
- universal indicator
- red + blue litmus paper
- spatula
- pipette
- solutions:
- dishwashing liquid
- dishwashing powder + water
- fabric softener
- vinegar
- toilet cleaner
- spray wipe
- floor cleaner
METHOD:
- in each dimple of the spot plate, put one solution
- test each solution with red then blue litmus paper
- each litmus paper will change colour, record this
- remove the litmus paper
- drop a few drops of universal indicator to each solution

DISCUSSION
- Different household chemicals change into different colours with universal indicator because some were more acidic and some were more basic.
- An acidic chemical would turn red, orange, or yellow with indicator. Neutral would be green. Basic chemicals would turn teal, blue, or indigo.
- Universal indicator can be more useful than litmus paper, because it shows how acidic/basic it is. Litmus paper just tells you that its either acidic or basic.
CONCLUSION
- Our experiment did work because we followed the instructions
- We could’ve improved our experiment by trying even more chemicals
