Greetings and Salutations viewers, today in this piece of writing I will be summarizing a text that my group has been reading for literacy. The text is called ‘ Mata I Pusi ‘ which also translates so ‘ the eye of a cat ‘ So come with me on this journey of summarizing!
In this book, the main character is Si’aula, and she was an ordinary girl that was mixed of Samoan and European
ethnicity. Her eyes were a bright and sort of dark green tone that many people teased her for. She was embarrassed of her mixed ethnicity and didn’t want palagi people to make fun of her samoan heritage, and samoan people to make fun of her palagi heritage. But her nana gave her words of wisdom that helped her overcome these challenges. Her mother always told her that her eyes represented “ Mata I Pusi “ or the eye of a cat. Because her eyes were green, black cats were often her main similarities on the eye.
In conclusion, I have talked about the main character, what she faced, and who helped her overcome these challenges. This story impacts the people of mixed ethnicities by talking about Si’Aula and her ordinary features that made her different from others, and that she overcame these challenges by not the people in front of her, but the people beside her. So be like Si’Aula don’t give up on your nationality and ethnicity, keep fighting for tranquility and humility within your identity.
