This week for math we have been learning about prime numbers.First we had to get into buddies I was with Araeka.Secondly we had to choose a name the white board.Our name was the trendies.Since we were called the trendies we would have to write the prime numbers that were and weren’t prime numbers from 1-10.

Kawarau Swing
On the 30th of July I visited the Kawarau Swing in Queenstown. I was excited and scared. I was excited because going on a big swing was something new for me and I was scared because it was my first time. The swing was a little bit like a bungy jump and was run by AJ Hackett.
I had to do it with an adult but my dad couldn’t do it because he had injured himself on the farm. I had to talk talk mum into it.
After I had done it I wanted to do it again. Mum said “NO!”
I also went on a zip line with mum – It wasn’t scary, but it was fast. My Favorite one was the swing because they dropped down and you had a beautiful view over the river. My mum screamed like a goat, and I just laughed! I got a funny tummy feeling too.

The Night Before the Tsunami.
For the past two weeks we have been learning how to structure our writing in a nice why. Also we have been learning how to put simple sentences in our writing. I have made a story about a tsunami. A little girl named Lucy, and her family they were at home on her brothers b-day ( Dave ) he is 5 turning 6 but know 6 years old. and on his b-day a tsunami warning is set out of the whole of NZ. They get scared and pack there things and leaves. Then to find out For the Tsunami to be fake.My writing goal was in this story was to add more punctuation and more detail. I enjoyed the whole story. What I had found challenging was all the harder works to write. Next time I will improve my spelling.
The Story Of The Nine Stars Of Matariki
For term two we have been learning about how to plan our writing with a mountain structure and with an oreo structure as well. I have also been learning how to do adverbial phrases with simple sentences in my writing. I have enjoyed making my writing amazing. What I found challenging was not adding too much punctuation in my stories. This week I have made a story of Matariki and the nine stars.
The Story of the Nine Stars of Matariki.
In a land far away back in the day, there was a little village, and in that place were eight little girls who always wished to be stars. The youngest sister name was named Wish; likewise, River was similar to Ocean. Rain was the sister who cared for Wish, and Ocean, as well as River. Their older sisters were Rangi and Nuku. The oldest children were Sky and Kawa. The mother of them was Matariki; she looked after and cared for her tamariki, took care of them and told stories about the stars and how there could be wars in space. River and Ocean loved the water; however, Ocean admired the moana, and River preferred the awa. Rain enjoyed playing in the rain outside; Rangi alongside Nuku also adored the outdoors, along with the fact that they always played in trees. Sky loved wind and stepped outside every time it was windy. Kawa always visited and saw who had passed on to the heavens, in spite of the fact that people could not see their family anymore; they could still watch them from afar and see them grow.
“Rangi, get off those trees. Come on, River, do not dive into the pond,” sighed Awa. Being the oldest sister out of seven little siblings was super hard. “Come on, tamariki, we are almost at the top of the maunga.” OK, OK. So, that is how every night there are more and more stars, due to the people who have passed on and have turned into stars, who were the storytellers of those legends or myths; well, you know, it might be real. “Will we become stars?” asked Wish. “Yes, one day you will, and so will I.” “I want to be a star.” “Me too.” “Me three.” OK, at that moment it was time to get some rest. Good night,” said Matariki. The upcoming day, “Morena sis,” said Kawa. “You are up early, Kawa,” said Rain. “Yes, I am. I am planning to get some kai for us so we will not be hungry.” “That is a wonderful idea,” exclaimed Rain. “Can I please come as well?” “Sure, let us travel ahead of the others before anyone else wakes up, OK.” We should immediately get back, yeah, let’s. We got lots of kai for us, oh! Thank you, Kawa. You too, Rain. “No problem we shouldn’t let this go to waste said, Nuku āe. Wish said, “I am kei te tino hiakai ahau,” āe claimed Sky. “Mmm, that was reka; too bad there is no more,” said Matariki politely. That tasted like it had been made with magic and wonder. I enjoyed that; thank you.
Come on, guys, we need to haere down the maunga so we could get back to the village, āe, yes, yeah. Back at the village. “Where are we now? At the village. Go and unpack your stuff and I’ll go to the market. Does anyone want to come said Matariki, no thanks said all of the sisters. “Bye, be good.” “Time to go play outside said one of the siblings yeah lets go Nuku Rangi get back here Kawa said. “No, don’t bring that water inside is that from the awa or off the farm. Mother said to be good and unpack,” Kawa said. Rain Sky get back here. “Whaa! Oh! Wish, don’t cry, please everybody, mutu. whakarongo opps. All of you inside right now said Kawa! Lets all settle down and go for a walk in the woods ok lets go yay!
Later at home in the village. Im home huh? Kawa, Rangi, Sky anybody where are you, my tamariki huh? Some of River’s water came from the awa. They must of went out in the forest im coming don’t worry. Are we lost, uh? I think we are oh no. I’m so hungry; could we find something to eat, Kawa and Sky. I don’t think we had any food at all, sorry. But were hungry; I didn’t like that. “Can we just go home?” Nuku complained. Two hours later. Hey guys I found something! What is it yelled Rangi. I thought there is a apple tree over there. I think your just seeing things I am, yeah, oh.
I found some berries over here yay! Guys don’t eat it but were hungry, yeah, and they might be dirty and we might get sick. Well Kawa you are hungry so may we please try it okay. No don’t eat them said Matariki you might die! (Everyone coughing) No! (Matariki is sobbing.) I would rather die than live in sadness. Huh? Where am I Mum children. Who is he? I am a god of the stars I will grant you this you will be able to live happily together as a star but you will only come out once a year to watch your tribe grow. Ngā mihi said Matariki. Okay Kawa you will be the god of the people who have past on and your name will be Poutukawa. Sky, you will be Ururangi the star god of the wind. Rangi and Nuku you will be the star gods of the forest but Rangi you will protect the trees and Nuku you will protect the ground. Your names will be Tupuarangi and Tupuanuku. Ocean and River your names will be Waiti and Waita Ocean you will protect salt water, River you will protect the fresh water. Rain you will be the rain star you will provide rain upon plants and people, and your name will be Waipunarangi. Matariki you will be the mother star and Wish you will be the wishing star and your name is Hiwaitrangi. Now be gone. That is how the nine stars of Matariki became stars.
Kaira’s Speech 2026
For term 3 writing I’ve been working on this piece of writing called my speech. My speech is about why sports are important. I’m also trying to convince you to do an activity to keep you strong and healthy. I had a think about it and came up about doing my speech about sports and why it’s important. I used the Oreo structure, simple sentences and a couple of catching hooks. I also chose this topic because I chose something that would inspire people to do that activity and also I did this topic last year when I was a year 5 so I decided to do the same topic but more convincing. That’s why I chose to do this topic 1st because it keeps you healthy, 2nd it makes you strong.

Have you ever come off the field feeling good like Portia Woodman when she scores those tries for New Zealand? Well, I have when I play netball. I think that playing sports is really important and essential. I think that all kids`, no matter where or who they are, should play a team sport. Team sports are important because they keep you physically fit, make you healthier, teach you skills, and build up your sportsmanship.
Did you know that playing a team sport makes you physically stronger, not just in your body but also your mind too? Doing sports causes your body to grow because, if you’re doing any, it stretches your muscles and bones. I mean, if you’re just sitting on the couch and playing a video game all day, that’s just exercising your thumbs, not your body.
How do sports make you healthier? Sports can help you stay healthy because doing lots of physical movement helps you digest your food more quickly, and it also helps your heart grow stronger, strengthens your bones, and helps your blood flow through your body, and carry oxygen, so your muscles can breathe.
When you play sports, you learn skills such as bouncing a ball, throwing those amazing shots, increasing those interceptions, learning not to step, and developing great eye coordination. All of those skills are one big skill, because if you know them all, then you can do them all at the same time. That is why, if you practise all of those skills, you will become a master at them. I mean, even if you only play netball, many skills are transferable to other sports, such as rugby; for example, great eye coordination is used in baseball.
Playing a team sport can develop sportsmanship by increasing your bond with your team. Sportsmanship is’t just teamwork, it’s also supporting your teammates, encouraging them, being honest if you step with the ball, cheering them on if you’re on the sideline, and including them. It’s like they all team work makes the dream work. Now that is what sportsmanship is.
Now, if you’re on the couch at home being lazy by playing a video game, please that is not important, because you have so much to do and learn in the world, such as sports, rather than playing a video game. So, get off the couch and your devises and go play a sport now.

Ariya’s Speech 2026
For Term 2 writing I’ve done a piece of speech writing my speech is about horses.
Don’t you want to race through the wind on the back your very own palomino with the sun shining on you as you fly through the paddocks? Then I think you should buy a horse. Owning a horse is the best because it will be your best friend, you will care for the horse, and you can compete in games.
A horse is your best friend because it gets to know you. When you ride, the horse looks after you. When you want to move the horse feels it, and when you’re scared it feels it and it gets scared too so you have to be brave. When you brush your horse it will give you a nuzzle.
When you own a horse, you learn how to take care of it and become responsible. Every day, you have to
clean the stable, feed it and at night put its cover on then in the morning take the cover off and feed it again so it is a big responsible. On show day, you have to wash your horse and make it really soapy. Then dry them and make sure they look their best.
The best part of owning a horse is competing. I compete in show jumping, barrel racing, ribbon day, and crosscountry. I love competing because you can get ribbons and you can have fun.
I think owning a horse is the best because your horse will become your best friend, you will learn lots of skills in taking care of your horse and you get to compete. Now, don’t you think you need to buy a horse so go and buy yourself a horse
