Kia Ora reader

This is my blog about Phom practice which we’ve been doing since week one
This weeks Prefix is about the letter E we have been learning about Prefix to help our reading, spelling and vocabulary.

A prefix is a group of letters we add to the beginning of a word.
It changes meaning A prefix changes the word’s meaning and makes a new word.
The prefix E means:out of or from

My class was learning about the word Phom which is about prefixes. Prefixes is when you put a group of letters at the start of a word, which changes the word and its whole meaning. For example, the word change means to make or become different, or to exchange one thing for another.

PhOM Practice. (E)

Kia Ora, Talofa reader  !

Recently starting this term, we have been paying attention to “phOM practice.” PhOM practice is breaking words down into their component parts. Specifically prefixes, root/Base words, and suffixes.

In this blog, I will be using the prefix “e.”  If you do not understand what a prefix is. It is a letter or a group of letters placed in front of a word to create a new word and change the meaning of words.  The type of sound it makes is “eee”  The prefix “e” has been used in words such as ” emerge” or “evade.”  The prefix “e”  usually means out of or from as a prefix.

Three sentences with the prefix “e”:

Emerge :  I saw a frog emerge from the pond.

Erase : I had to erase everything I wrote in my notebook.

Erupt : There are low chances of seeing a volcano erupt.

Thats my phOM practice, see ya later alligator !

PHOM Practice!!

Hello readers! This is our second week of the term. we’ve been learning biographies about our family and PAT questions; But the main topic about this blog is, PHOM PRACTICE!!!

Meaning

“But  Kas! What is PHOM Practice!?” I’ll tell you what me and my class have begun learning. The word PHOM is about prefixes and suffixes. We started with prefixes and are still learning about them; which was when you put a group of letters at the start of a word, which changes the word and its whole meaning. For example, the word Vict, comes from a word meaning to conquer or overcome. Now if we add the letter E to it at the beginning it turns into Evict; which means to force someone out of a place. So then you’d now get a whole new word.

Examples

Here are some more examples of words with the prefix E:

Rupt + E = Erupt

Old Meaning: Rupt means to break.

New Meaning: Erupt means to break out of something suddenly.

Sentence: The volcano may erupt and shoot lava out of the top.

Vade + E = Evade

Old Meaning: Vade comes from a word meaning to go or walk.

New Meaning: Evade means to get away from something or avoid being caught.

Sentence: The speedy player tried to evade the defender.

Rase + E = Erase

Old  Meaning: Rase comes from a word meaning to scrape or wipe.

New Meaning: Erase means to wipe out or remove something.

Sentence:I had to erase the mistake in my school project.

If you’ve fully read this blog thank you! I will now be seeing myself out!

Kind Regards,

Kasaina.

PHOM Practice – (e) 🧩 !First blog in Room 10!

Kia Ora bloggers/readers.

This week I have just moved to Room 10 with Memphis and Gian! So this is my first blog in Room 10.

In Room 10 we have been learning about the prefix ‘e’. Prefixes are a group of letters or a letter that goes before a base word to make a new meaning! An example of a prefix being used in a word is, for example, if you take the word ‘approve’ and add the prefix ‘dis’ you will get the word ‘disapprove’! Cool, right? It completely changed that word. Anyways, the prefix ‘e’ means to go out of or from something. Here are some examples of words with the prefix ‘e’ in just 3 sentences:

  •  Evade – I evaded an angry dog, safely making it to a space where it couldn’t reach me!
  • Emit – There was ash emitting from the volcano, making it hard to breathe nearby it.
  • Elapse – It felt like a long time waiting for time to elapse.

Thank you for reading my blog post! I hope you liked it and you can give feedback in the comments. It would be greatly appreciated! 😁👍

PHOM Practice (e) – Blog

Kamusta readers,

We are learning about an amazing topic. What the prefix e means! Did you know, that the letter e actually has a meaning in words? The prefix e means out of or from. Cool right? Many examples show that e impacts the word a lot. For example, evict. Evict means to force someone out of place. Without e, it would be completely a new word. Here are many examples with the prefix e. First off, “Erase”. It can be used in a sentence like “I erased the mistakes off of my paper.” Another, can be used with “Evade”. Evade can be used as “I evaded my classmates due to my shyness.” The last one that can be used is “Emit”.  “When a lamp is turned on, it can emit a ray of light across the room.” In conclusion, the letter e can be used in many words.
