🚀 Room 10’s Digital & Writing Power Up! ✍️

A huge shout-out to Elly for leading an awesome mahi (great work) session this week! Room 10 focused on two essential skills: digital organization and quality writing.

💻 Google Drive Detox 📂

Our main mission was conquering Google Drive! Learners successfully tackled digital clutter by:

  • Locating their files (the starting point for everything!).
  • Sorting documents into clear folders.
  • Renaming and deleting old files for a clean, efficient workspace.

Big Win: We are becoming super-organised digital citizens!

📝 The Secrets to Quality Blog Posts

We also unpacked what makes a blog post truly great! Learners identified key features of a quality post (like catchy titles, short paragraphs, and great visuals) and immediately put these skills into practice.

Check out the quality blog posts from some of our learners below to see their excellent work!

Active Learning Continues….

Amongest all the different things that have been happening in the class this week we have managed to get some more of our Active learning done. We are posting our activities on our individual blogs so feel free to check them out. You can find the links on our Class blog. Here are some of the air dry clay things we have completed.

We have been using Ai in our Cyber Smart time with Maria and we have posted some some of our DLOs on the blogs also. It has been interesting making these as we didn’t know much about Ai to start with. We have been using the Ai generator to make backgrounds for our Pepeha’s which has been part of our Literacy learning this week too.

It’s been a busy week! Next week we are doing some maths testing to see how we have been getting on with our Geometry learning when we have been learning about perimeter, area and volume. Stay tuned!

Waka Ahukura: Onsite Camp Adventure

This week was an on-site camp adventure, and what an amazing week it has been! Our Year 4 students and Year 5–6 friends had a chance to enjoy a variety of fun, creative, and hands-on activities.

We started the week with art and craft activities, where everyone let their creativity shine. Students painted colourful designs, tried their hand at clay modelling, and even made their own keychains to take home. It was fantastic seeing the unique ideas and bright smiles as they worked.

In the kitchen, we became little chefs, preparing yummy treats like ambrosia and coconut ice. Everyone loved measuring, mixing, and tasting their creations — there were plenty of giggles along the way!

Our planting projects were another highlight. Students made their own planters, thought carefully about what to grow, and planned how to look after their new plants. It was wonderful to see their excitement as they imagined how their plants would grow over time.

Of course, no camp would be complete without sports and games! Everyone got active, ran around, played team games, and had a blast outside. The energy, laughter, and teamwork were incredible to watch.

This week was all about trying new things, working together, and having fun. Everyone showed amazing creativity, enthusiasm, and kindness, making this onsite camp a truly special experience. It’s been a joy to see our students learning, playing, and creating so much while staying at school.

A huge well done to all our students! You made this week one to remember!

EPRo8 Competition.

EPro8 Competition Report

Our students did their best at the EPro8 competition. Teams had to choose between building a barrier arm, a foosball table, a target practice setup, or a racing shopping trolley. The electronic components were a big step up from what we had practised with at school, but the students started strongly and showed great resilience and respect throughout the competition.

It’s always challenging to be a spectator at these events, as we can only offer general encouragement and not specific ideas. I was very proud of the way all the students behaved and gave the competition their full effort.

One of our teams earned a place in the finals the following afternoon. With one student unavailable, another kindly stepped in to take his place. The final round was an even greater challenge — teams were not allowed to change their task without permission from the organisers.

The project was movie-themed, and our students chose to recreate the Indiana Jones Minecart scene. They built the minecart, the base and sleeper, and the train tracks. Next, they created a winch system, used a balloon to simulate the famous boulder chase, and added snakes on a hinged platform to drop onto the minecart.

It was a complex and demanding task, but our students rose to the challenge. They finished even on points with the team that had beaten them in the semi-final — a result they can be truly proud of.

Duffy Role Model Assembly 2025

This term we had Taofi Mose Nehemia come and speak to us about reading. Taofi is a Samoan New Zealand based actor and dancer. During the assembly, she taught us a few Samoan words that we usually hear in a sāsā like nofo and we all had to sit up. It was lots of fun! After her introduction, Taofi told us the story of Sina and her brothers. She acted it out and used lots of humour to tell the story. We thoroughly enjoyed it! Check out the videos here of Taofi’s visit to Weymouth Primary School. We hope to see her again soon.
